VALITS

VALidating Informal Transversal Skills of young workers in seasonal tourism
Project number: 2016-1-ES01-KA202-025068
Implementation period: 01.12.2016 – 30.11.2018

Project description

The issue of seasonality in tourism has long been a source of concern expressed in EU publications and it is feared that the intense concentration of touristic activities in a relatively short period of time “may have dramatic negative impact on local economies for the whole year” (Ecorys, 2013).

The main objective of the VALITS project was to help young seasonal workers break the cycle of high season activity followed by low season unemployment. This happened by creating a tool for validating their informal transversal skills which included key competences such as language skills, interpersonal skills, customer service and organisational skills and that had been gained through their informal and non-formal work experience and learning.

The Validation Tool had the facility to assess these informal transversal skills and offered a grading level that was meaningful and usable for their Europass CV and future employment.

A second project output created a Career Guidance Application that guided the user to full time work opportunities in either the same or different work sectors where their Transversal skill set would be in demand.
