Implementation period: 10.2004 – 09.2006
Project description
The aim of the project was to use the immense possibilities of simulations and games to encourage girls and young women aged 12 to 16 years to start education in fields related to information technology, science and engineering. The project aimed to help young girls understand how science involves the use of it in the real world, and help them to observe beneficial effects of information and communication technology, and science and engineering on society.
The result of the project was a web-based platform, supporting the girls in making career decisions by providing a large number of sources. The most important element of the platform is a fun simulation game that allows empathy in the role play and the simulation of a typical day’s work in engineering, science and related professions in information and communication technologies. Characteristic for the concept of technical disciplines are taught through interactive exercises and simulations that span multiple fields of engineering and science. Specially designed biographies of female technicians, scientists and engineers as well as links to other sites with information technology, communications, science and engineering are also available through the platform sitcom. The platform is rich in resources and provides support for girls and young women in decision-making in experimental and playful way. More information can be found on the project website.
