Implementation period: 01.12.2025 – 30.11.2027
Assistance program: Erasmus+
Project description
The rapid integration of AI in the medical sector has revolutionised healthcare, offering improved diagnostics, treatments and patient outcomes. However, this technological leap presents a critical challenge: traditional vocational education and training (VET) systems for healthcare professionals often lag behind in equipping learners with the necessary blend of technical, interpersonal and critical thinking skills.
FoH – Future of Healthcare is a European cooperation project that supports healthcare education and training providers in responding to the rapid integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) into healthcare practice. By bridging vocational education, ethics and emerging digital realities, FoH aims to ensure that AI enhances the quality, safety and dignity of healthcare – placing people, not technology, at the centre of care.
Project objectives:
- Develop a Methodological FoH Framework that defines how AI-related competencies, ethics and human-cantered care can be integrated into healthcare education and training.
- Identify current and future competency needs of healthcare professionals through transnational research activities, including focus groups and stakeholder consultations.
- Translate research findings into competence descriptors and learning guidelines applicable to VET and higher education contexts.
- Design and develop the FoH digital platform as a structured learning environment hosting competence-based resources.
- Implement and validate the FoH Framework through VET workshops, enabling professionals to apply AI-related competencies in real training contexts.
- Strengthen ethical awareness and professional responsibility to ensure AI supports clinical decision-making without undermining human judgment or patient safety.
- Promote human-cantered and responsible AI use in healthcare to improve the quality of care, trust and transparency.
Target Groups:
- Healthcare education and training providers (educators and trainers)
- Current and future healthcare professionals
- VET and higher education learners in the healthcare sector
Project Results:
- R1: Methodological FoH Framework: A structured, evidence-based methodology defining the essential future competencies required for healthcare professionals working with AI-enabled technologies, covering AI literacy, ethical principles and human-cantered soft skills.
- R2: FoH Digital Learning Platform: An interactive digital learning environment offering structured modules together with learning resources, case-based scenarios and guidance necessary for HE and VET education contexts.
- R3: VET Workshops Implementation: Pilot workshops across partner countries to test the framework in real educational settings, collect feedback and strengthen practical readiness for AI-supported clinical environments.
